Looking Back to Look Ahead: George Washington, Frederick Douglass, and America at 250.
Join the Maryland Two Fifty Commission in honoring the legacy of Douglass’ 1874 visit to Annapolis!
In 1874, Frederick Douglass made a historic visit to Annapolis. One of his stops was at the Maryland State House, where he recited George Washington’s resignation speech from memory.
In 2024, the Maryland Two Fifty Commission will celebrate Douglass’ legacy and examine this extraordinary event in our state’s history.
Join us at the Maryland State House on Saturday, June 22nd at 9:30 a.m. as Douglass’ reenactor Nathan Richardson transports us back in time. The Maryland Two Fifty Commission encourages all guests to attend the Juneteenth Parade at 12 p.m. after this event!
Please be advised that you must have your driver’s license or ID to enter the State House.
