Juneteenth in Carroll County

The Day of Black Freedom. The Juneteenth holiday recognizes June 19, 1865 as the day of emancipation of enslaved people of African Heritage. Officially declared a federal holiday in 2021, we celebrate freedom and embrace our African ancestry. Former slaves used the Juneteenth gatherings and newspapers advertisements as an opportunity to find family members that were previously sold.
