In 1927, the home was purchased by Benjamin Sumner Welles, the U.S. Undersecretary of State, whose lavish parties played host to both foreign dignitaries and domestic statesmen. History reveals that the estate hosted many prominent figures including President Franklin D. Roosevelt and possibly Sir Winston Churchill.
